Methamphetamine Investigation Leads to Arrest
On May 5, 2026, officers with the North Vernon Police Department responded to the Wayside Inn regarding suspected narcotics that had been located outside the business.
Officer Clayton Cain led the investigation with the assistance of Officer Conner Emily and Sergeant Austin Grunden. During the investigation, officers recovered approximately 1.9 grams of methamphetamine after the substance tested positive using a field test kit.
As a result of the investigation, Mark A. Richart was taken into custody and transported to the Jennings County Jail.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

North Vernon Man Arrested on Multiple Theft and Drug Charges
The North Vernon Police Department has arrested Joshua L. Hahn (46), of North Vernon, following an investigation into a reported theft from a motor vehicle.
On May 2, 2026, officers received information related to a prior theft investigation involving stolen vehicle parts. During the investigation, officers located a suspect vehicle and made contact with Joshua Hahn, who was identified as a suspect in the case.
Through the course of the investigation, officers developed probable cause to believe Hahn was involved in the theft of property from a vehicle. Additional evidence led to further charges, including possession of methamphetamine and auto theft-related offenses.
Hahn was taken into custody and faces the following preliminary charges:

Theft from a Motor Vehicle (with a prior unrelated conviction)
Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)
Auto Theft
Criminal Conversion
The investigation was led by Officer Allen with the assistance of Sergeant Barkes and Officer Gibbons.
